Field notes / Chemical intelligence

Citric acid fell 29% in Sacramento. It rose 28% in Tri Valley.

Four California citric acid lanes moved in four different directions over 2024 to 2026, which is why a national average is a price that exists in no single lane.

M. Tax, Water Hawk analyst desk / Jul 23, 2026

Four separate California citric acid lanes, same chemical, same 2024-2026 window: Sacramento down 29.1%, Peninsula down 26.4%, North Bay down 6.1%, Tri Valley up 27.8%. One national headline cannot hold all four numbers at once.

Delivered cost is a function of the lane, not just the chemical. Freight, fuel surcharge, and peak season timing stack differently on every route, which is how the same commodity moves in opposite directions inside one state. We carry FOB, lane, and delivered band on every tracked chemical, not one blended national figure.
